Green One Skein Bowl

I forgot to mention in my first post the other day (the cupcake with the cherry on top) that my name is Christine, and I'm new to this group and am just loving this book and looking at everyone's projects here!

I knit this bowl using two strands of Patons Classic Merino Wool in the "Leaf Green" colour.

I cast on as for the larger bowl in the pattern but only knit until the bowl was 7" high before doing the base decreases. I also used 8mm needles instead of 10mm, just because I've used that size successfully with this yarn before and knew that it would work well.

Felted in my front-loader and blocked over a cheap acrylic bowl that I have. The blocking really gives it a crisp shape, and I even like the ridges that it picked up from the bowl!

I'm definitely going to make more of these, but I want to make them smaller and shallower (and more colourful), to use on top of the dresser for holding loose change and stuff. I think they're just ideal for that. This bowl turned out 3.5" high and about 6 " wide.

Here's one last photo, of the bowl before felting:

Could almost be a toque pattern too! :-)

UPDATE: Just adding a photo of the acrylic bowl I used to block the bowl, as someone had asked about it. I picked a few of these up at the supermarket one day to use as chip bowls. They were less than a dollar apiece. Never guessed that they'd make excellent blocking forms too! I took the wet felted knitting and pulled and stretched it over the outside of the bowl (was pretty rough with it - felted wool is tough!). I let it dry for a day or two in that position and then just popped it off.

Altered Felted Bowls

In the interest of using up what I've got in my stash, I decided to use the Felted Bowls as the basis for making an Easter basket. However, when it came to Easter-y, spring-y colors, all I had was worsted weight yarn (Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride). I decided to give it a try anyway, and I think it's quite sweet. I followed the pattern for the larger bowl exactly, just using worsted weight yarn (and size 11 needles). I added the stripes (top stripe is 2 rounds, lower stripe is 6 rounds) to use up more of my stash. The handle is a 10-stitch i-cord.

Looking at the photos in the book, I assume that the biggest difference is the thickness of the bowl...the bulkier yarn would definitely make it more substantial. I haven't made a bulky-weight one yet, though, so I don't have a direct comparison.

Sorry to post twice in one night, but I just got signed up!
